Which MP4 quality should I choose?
1080p for a TV or a big screen, 720p for a laptop, and 360p or 480p for a phone when you want small files. The size shown next to each button is an estimate.
Will the MP4 play on iPhone and Windows?
Yes. Videos are saved with the H.264 video and AAC audio codecs, which play natively on iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac and smart TVs.
Why isn't 1080p available for some videos?
Only the qualities the creator uploaded are listed. If a video was uploaded in 720p, 720p is the best quality you can download.

Are the files stored on your server?

Can I download private, members-only or age-restricted videos?
No. Only public videos can be downloaded. Private, members-only and age-restricted videos need a signed-in YouTube account, so they are not accessible.
Is it legal to download YouTube videos?
Downloading is fine for your own uploads and for videos the creator allows you to save, for example under a Creative Commons licence. For anything else, check the creator's permission and YouTube's terms, and never re-upload other people's videos as your own.
